Executive Chairman

Bob Turner

Bob Turner came to Australia from the USA in 1976 to play basketball. He stayed, became an Australian citizen, and forged a highly successful career in sport and business – as a player, coach, marketer, manager, motivator and owner.

Over the years, he has earned a reputation as one of Australia’s most respected sports personalities. Best known for his basketball coaching and administration, Bob is renowned throughout many businesses and sporting organisations for his marketing and management ability and his pioneering work with NBL teams the Canberra Cannons, Sydney Kings and Singapore Slingers, Chairmanship of the Sydney Blue Sox and promotion of a variety of sports from Lawn Bowls to Gymnastics, Baseball and of course Basketball. From sport to business and work in the Not For Profit sector Bob joined the Australian Cancer Research Foundation as their Director of Marketing and successfully launched the Top Level Domain .CancerResearch in 2016.  Bob was also CEO of BREED Australia, a Not For Profit Charity, and drove their regional expansion in support of small business incubation and programmes for Youth Education and Employment.

Bob has been actively engaged as Head Coach, General Manager, Managing Director and part owner of four NBL teams and in 2010 was the driving force in the resurrection of the Sydney Kings. Through a distinguished coaching career Bob is one of an elite group of coaches to be awarded the prestigious NBL Coach of the Year Award twice, in 1981 with the Newcastle Falcons and in 1985 with the Canberra Cannons.  In 1999 he was honoured by the Basketball Australia and the NBL as a Hall of Fame inductee.

His personal success as a basketball player, coach, marketer, administrator and businessman is a unique combination in the business world and he has been actively engaged by numerous corporate associates to present and develop a variety of issues including team building, motivation, success and leadership.

His media profile and access to high profile decision makers in the sporting, political and business arenas, combined with his strong credibility and hard work ethic, has produced an individual with proven ability to tackle a challenge. Bob has built a unique skill set over 42 years and established a reputation as ‘Mr. Have A Go’!

Bob is excited at the potential to Chair the West  Sydney Wolves and assist to grow the Association into one of the most professionally run sporting organisations in the country and a significant contributor to Western Sydney.

Ronnie Khalil begun his career at the age of 20, creating multiple companies.

Ronnie is a Founder of the West Sydney Wolves Basketball Association. Ronnie became the Chairman of the West Sydney Wolves in November 2017 and is today the current the Vice Chairman & Chief Executive Officer.

Ronnie has extensive experience in Business Management, Business Development and Corporate Marketing. His extended knowledge in the Sports, Venue Management and the Basketball Industry will help contribute to the overall success of the West Sydney Wolves Basketball Association.

As a key advisor to the Board and the Association, Chief Executive Officer Ronnie has directed the growth of the Association though his vast specialized knowledge and the experience he has gained in the past 20 years.

With incredible passion and drive, Ronnie’s vision for the West Sydney Wolves will help lead Basketball in NSW to grow as a whole and increase participation numbers over the next decade.

Kostas Augerinos

Kostas Augerinos is one of the founders of West Sydney Wolves Basketball Association. Kostas took the role of Treasurer in November 2017.

Kostas is the Managing Director of KAA Australia, a boutique medium sized accounting firm based on King Street Wharf in Sydney that specializes in Taxation Law, Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Business Advisory, Investment Advisory, Capital and Property Advisory.

Kostas Augerinos brings a broad range of specialized financial skills and extensive business and property development experience to the team.

Marvin Bayer

Marvin is one of the founders of West Sydney Wolves Basketball Association. Marvin took on the role of Director & Director of Basketball in November 2017

Marvin is widely considered as one of the best skills development trainers in the game today. His knowledge, ability and passion to teach the game and transform his players skills and lives is phenomenal. Marvin has worked with all levels of players, from youth to NBL, College and WNBA and has demonstrated a talent for developing players and raising basketball programs to a higher standard of excellence.

His love for basketball and developing the youth of Australia, extends beyond the court where he works with community programs for disadvantaged youth. Much of his time is spent growing the sport within our schools. He has also been recruited by several associations as a development officer, representative coach and advisor throughout his 30+ years of involvement in basketball.

Bob Elphinston

In his early days , Bob Elphinston was a Physical Education Teacher , Adviser, Sport and Facilities Manager with the NSW Government.

Bob was responsible for the construction and operation of the State  Sports Centre at Homebush on behalf of the NSW Government which led him to become a key figure in winning the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Bid , as General Manager, progressing to be the key person for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games responsible for all sports, International Relations etc “In the best Games ever “, being rewarded with an Australian Govt Order of Australia.

His very successful role in the Sydney Olympics led to being a key Games/Sports Consultant to the International Olympic Committee for Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games.

Through his Physical education training , Basketball became Bob’s passion, as he progressed from playing key roles as President of Bankstown Basketball Association for 17 years and building a 7 court stadium in the 1970’s ; coaching Club and State Basketball teams with great success and being an Assistant Coach and Manager for the Australian Boomers  at the 1982 World champs and 1984 Olympic Games.

Bob was a Founding Director of the National Basketball League on behalf of the Bankstown Bruins in 1979 and has remained an avid supporter of the NBL to this day, where he serves as Board Director.

His passion for the game and strong leadership skills led him to become Australia’s first ever President of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in 2006.

After completing his International duties , Bob Elphinston returned to NSW Basketball to lead the sport into a period of great progress from 2014, as Chairman, finishing his term in December , 2018. Bob is a Life Member of Bankstown , NSW and Australian Basketball and a Member of the Australian and NSW Basketball Halls of Fame.

Being elected a member of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame is symbolic of the respect he is held within the Australian Sporting Community. Bob is a Board Director for the International Masters Games Association.

George Hadchiti

George holds a double degree in Business (Marketing) and Law. He was admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of NSW in August 2005. George has been actively practicing as a solicitor since 2005.

George is adept in identifying legal and commercial issues and recommending legal options that will support the desired outcomes on behalf of his clients.

George is a council member of the University of Sydney Australian Lebanese Foundation. The Foundation’s brief includes supporting academic and student exchange between the universities, cultural exchange and the provision of University scholarships and other forms of support to Australians of Lebanese heritage so that they can broaden their opportunities in life through education.

Since a young age George has held a great passion for basketball. He has been playing basketball since the age of 8 years. During his high school years George played at school level for De La Salle Bankstown, club level for Bankstown Bruins and representative level for the Combined Catholic Schools NSW team. When he wasn’t playing Basketball George was refereeing. He was a junior registered referee at Bankstown Basketball stadium.

Medeya Hamzze

Medeya Hamzze is the Operations Director for West Sydney Wolves Basketball Association.

With over 10 years experience in running day to day activities and ensuring all organisational activities are upheld. Her arrival into the WSWBA has seen soaring membership numbers and she is always devising improvement strategies with her advanced skills in consulting and project management, and experience with marketing and events planning.

Medeya also holds a Diploma in Marketing, Events Planning and Early Childhood Education and was a co-founder of Sydney Knights Basketball Club; which was well known for its training programs and success on the court.

Medeya is using her background in project management and planning to help West Sydney Wolves grow the sport of basketball within the community and encourage the youth to stay active.

Stephanie Giannis

Stephanie Giannis is our Human Resources Director and is also a Project Manager at KAA.

Stephanie holds a number of degrees and diplomas ranging from a combined Arts/Law Degree from Sydney University, advanced certificate in Management, Certificate IV in Finance and a Life Coaching Certificate. Stephanie is a published author and Distinguished Toastmaster and has expertise in the fields of marketing/sales as well as Legal and Compliance. Stephanie is also a Justice of the Peace.

Her arrival to the WSWBA as an active Human Resources Director has meant that she is constantly working on and updating our compliance.

Stephanie has a passion for health and wellbeing and sports in general. Stephanie is also the current secretary of the West Sydney Wolves Basketball Board.

 

Marketing Coordinator

Jenny Shami

Jenny Shami is the West Sydney Wolves’ administrator. Jenny joined the West Sydney Wolves in 2018 and has slid right in with the culture we are fostering at the Wolves.

She comes from an insurance admin background and is completely dedicated to assisting in the growth of the West Sydney Wolves.

She has a passion for the sport of Basketball which she outwardly promotes whenever she can.

Her children are a huge factor in her decision to move into the basketball world and you will often find her assisting on the court as well.

Jenny has completed diplomas in Marketing, Business Management and Accounting. She is a key member of staff in the development and maintenance of our website and one of the “go-to” people here at the West Sydney Wolves.

Jenny’s motivation in her day to day work is to increase the number of basketball players in NSW and Australia as a whole. She ensures all our systems are working correctly and  is there to answer parents questions whatever they may be.

She envisions a basketball to be a sport where Australia competently and confidently competes against the “Greats” of Basketball.

 

Schools Coordinator

Asmahan Zakaria

Asmahan Zakaria is our Basketball Administrator at the West Sydney Wolves. She is switched on and eager to grow the sport of Basketball in NSW. Asmahan coordinates with schools and councils to organise Basketball programs for students and the community of Greater Western Sydney.

Asmahan has worked as a business administrator in the past for schools and reputable companies. She has come over to the Wolves as she believes it is the best place to utilise her knowledge of administration as well as extending her appreciation for the sport she has watched her children compete and train in for many years.

Asmahan feels that sport can play an important role in developing our country’s youth and has the ability to reach an unite communities. She is an invaluable part of our team!

Damein Banner

Damein Banner is a passionate, highly experienced and well-respected coach in the basketball community. Having over 35 years of experience as a player, trainer and coach, Damein Co-founded the Sydney Knights Basketball Club, one of the most successful youth basketball clubs in Sydney.

Born and raised in NYC, he has played at the High School, Division 1 Junior College and Semi-Pro levels. Damein has a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and believes basketball is an ideal sport to teach life skills to our youth.

Damein is committed to creating pathways for young athletes through sports and education. He has a strong commitment to enhancing the youth through the sport of Basketball and wants to provide opportunities on a national and international stage.

Damein is also a talent scout for West Sydney Wolves and works closely with U.S. High School and Collegiate Programs to assist youngsters who are interested in scholarship opportunities in the U.S.

Jenny has completed diplomas in Marketing, Business Management and Accounting. She is a key member of staff in the development and maintenance of our website and one of the “go-to” people here at the West Sydney Wolves.

Jenny’s motivation in her day to day work is to increase the number of basketball players in NSW and Australia as a whole. She ensures all our systems are working correctly and  is there to answer parents questions whatever they may be.

She envisions a basketball to be a sport where Australia competently and confidently competes against the “Greats” of Basketball.

 

Schools Coordinator

Asmahan Zakaria

Asmahan Zakaria is our Basketball Administrator at the West Sydney Wolves. She is switched on and eager to grow the sport of Basketball in NSW. Asmahan coordinates with schools and councils to organise Basketball programs for students and the community of Greater Western Sydney.

Asmahan has worked as a business administrator in the past for schools and reputable companies. She has come over to the Wolves as she believes it is the best place to utilise her knowledge of administration as well as extending her appreciation for the sport she has watched her children compete and train in for many years.

Asmahan feels that sport can play an important role in developing our country’s youth and has the ability to reach an unite communities. She is an invaluable part of our team!

Marvin Bayer

Marvin is one of the founders of West Sydney Wolves Basketball Association. Marvin took on the role of Director & Director of Basketball in November 2017

Marvin is widely considered as one of the best skills development trainers in the game today. His knowledge, ability and passion to teach the game and transform his players skills and lives is phenomenal. Marvin has worked with all levels of players, from youth to NBL, College and WNBA and has demonstrated a talent for developing players and raising basketball programs to a higher standard of excellence.

His love for basketball and developing the youth of Australia, extends beyond the court where he works with community programs for disadvantaged youth. Much of his time is spent growing the sport within our schools. He has also been recruited by several associations as a development officer, representative coach and advisor throughout his 30+ years of involvement in basketball.

Damein Banner

Damein Banner is a passionate, highly experienced and well-respected coach in the basketball community. Having over 35 years of experience as a player, trainer and coach, Damein Co-founded the Sydney Knights Basketball Club, one of the most successful youth basketball clubs in Sydney.

Born and raised in NYC, he has played at the High School, Division 1 Junior College and Semi-Pro levels. Damein has a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and believes basketball is an ideal sport to teach life skills to our youth.

Damein is committed to creating pathways for young athletes through sports and education. He has a strong commitment to enhancing the youth through the sport of Basketball and wants to provide opportunities on a national and international stage.

Damein is also a talent scout for West Sydney Wolves and works closely with U.S. High School and Collegiate Programs to assist youngsters who are interested in scholarship opportunities in the U.S.
